A student from Coventry has been chosen from more than 1½ million candidates to receive a prestigious City & Guilds Medal for Excellence.

Sonali Mitra, a paralegal student on an Institute of Legal Executives (www.ilex.org.uk) course, is one of only 120 City & Guild students in Britain to achieve such an award this year, which recognise exceptional academic achievement.

The City & Guilds Medals for Excellence programme rewards outstanding people: Only students whose dedication and talent enables them to produce work of an exceptional standard are eligible for the medals. This year, Sonali was one of three students on ILEX courses who won medals for their legal studies.

She was acknowledged at a glittering Oscars-style ceremony in London on April 14th. Sonali currently works part-time with the Coventry Chartered Accountancy firm, Neil & Co and completed her Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX) Certificate in Vocational Paralegal Studies Level 2 studies at the City College Coventry.

“My congratulations to Sonali,” said ILEX President, Lesley Graham. “This is a tremendous result for her. The City & Guilds Medals for Excellence recognise the very best students in the country. To have someone who is undertaking an ILEX course win one of these prestigious Medals is proof that the link we have forged with City & Guilds is paying dividends through the caliber of student achieving their qualifications. This is also proof of the quality of the courses we run for legal secretaries, paralegal and support staff. We are confident that these courses are now the best of their kind available.”

Commenting on her win, Sonali said “I’m thrilled. It’s fantastic to win this award! It feels really incredible and it‘s worth all the effort and hard work I put into my studies.”
