Launch of BNLF Women’s Network
Launch of BNLF Women’s Network
12 March 2018
The British Nigeria Law Forum (BNLF) Women’s Network was launched by the BNLF on 9 March, in one of the many celebratory events organised to mark this year’s International Women’s Day.
The theme of the launch event was ‘Inspirational women and their strategies for overcoming professional barriers’, and speakers included CILEx President Millicent Grant. In a touching gesture, she received a thank you award with the inscription: ‘We appreciate your contribution as a speaker at our launch’ from Seye Aina, chair of BNLF and founder of BNLF Women’s Network (pictured). Other speakers included Ruona Iguyovwe OBE, senior specialist prosecutor in the international justice and organised crime division at the Crown Prosecution Service.
The aims of BNLF Women’s Network include promoting human rights and access to justice, and celebrating the achievements of women in the law.
BNLF Women’s Network will provide opportunities – through events and conferences – for members to make contacts and exchange ideas, and offer help with career development. In addition, the network intends to support women in the legal profession and address issues affecting them.
Millicent Grant commented: “I was honoured to be invited to speak at the launch of the BNLF Women’s Network, and to hear the inspiring stories of the other accomplished panellists. I wish the network every success in supporting and encouraging women from all backgrounds to achieve their goals and to break through the barriers to progress that we face in the profession.”
