CILEx welcomes new Secretaries of State Truss and Greening
18 July 2016
The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives has contacted the Justice Secretary Liz Truss to welcome her appointment and offer all possible support in her new role. That she is the first woman to hold the great office of state that is Lord Chancellor has particular resonance with CILEx which itself promotes diversity and inclusion at all levels and three quarters of whose membership are women.
CILEx President Martin Callan said: “At this time of great change both for the country and for the legal services market, CILEx and its members are uniquely placed to offer flexible, alternative solutions and support to the issues of unmet legal need in our society. We very much look forward to working with the new Lord Chancellor on these challenges.”
CILEx has also extended a warm welcome to the new Secretary of State for Education Justine Greening. As an awarding organisation providing technical, professional and apprenticeship qualifications in law, CILEx will be working closely with her department, particular as it takes on the further education and skills policy work that previously sat with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.
Martin Callan said: “At this exciting time for national skills policy, I welcome Justine’s appointment and the adjustment in her department’s responsibilities. CILEx will be working with the DfE as we roll out our new Tech level Diploma in Law and Legal Skills and launch new Trailblazer Apprenticeships, as well as offering our support to the implementation of the new Post-16 Skills Plan. I look forward to working with her to ensure employers have a competent and capable legal workforce, and that learners have accessible opportunities to pursue meaningful and fulfilling legal careers.”
